Over the past few years I have developed knowledge and skills of Search Engine Optimisation. I have come to understand the importance of search engine marketing, and the value it can add to a website (and a company as a whole). Increasing visibility of a website in the search engines always increases their traffic, and this often results in benefits such as higher sales, increased advertising opportunities, or more relevant visitors.  

The latter point is a crucial one. SEO used to often be simply about increasing visitors, and driving thousands of extra visitors to a site. This resulted in some sites simply filling their content with popular keywords, even if they were not relevant to the page (or even the site in general sometimes).
